Meet me in my hiding
In broad terms, this body of work delves into the intricacies and complexities that define our human experience.
I am fascinated by the concealed aspects of our inner worlds — fantasies, fixations, orphaned feelings, and unspoken longings. Each image in this series was provoked by a feeling, a yearning to articulate my inner experience and see it represented in a tangible image.
Often I would be moved towards an unpredictable outcome, always abandoning precision and accuracy in the hope of discovering the unseen beneath the seen and the energetic beneath form within myself and in my surroundings. Seeking the suspended moment perhaps and the possibility of experiencing an expanded awareness.
Primarily drawn to the sensual full body of the sea, the fluency of its choreography, and its raw primal force it became highly symbolic and a potent mirror at a particularly challenging and transformative time in my life. The colour indigo speaks to a quiet ethereal mystery and my nocturnal sensibility.
The images were captured over three years in different countries yet from the same liminal and transitional space where light and darkness were intertwined for me. I describe them as threshold images, exploring perceived boundaries between dreams and reality, the temporal and eternal, wounds and fragility, freedom and spirituality.
This body of work presents a curated series of 30 images, blending stills and moving visuals in layered compositions, creating intricate visual dialogues some in pepetual motion.Select pieces of text – some hand embriodered, others typed, deconstructed and reassembled – interweave with the images ,deepening the narrative texture of the work as a whole.
